It's the first day back to school for most students across Kern County... including for the Bakersfield City School District.
As you're waking up to get the kiddos to school, being mindful of street safety could save lives.It's hard to believe but it's already that time of year.
With the kids going back to school, comes safety zones and traffic.
California Highway Patrol wants to warn drivers that 25 mph zones are back. This also means 25 miles per hour for football practices and other activities.
That's definitely something to keep in mind considering that Friday night football will be here again.
As students return to school this week, Governor Gavin Newsom is urging districts statewide to ban the use of cell phones in classrooms.

This morning -- the Borel Fire continues to burn in the mountains east of Bakersfield, although the fire is nearly out. Containment still holding at 91-percent, with the fire boundaries now mapped to just over 59-thousand acres.
The National Forest Service says Burned Area Emergency Response teams are working to determine the need for so-called Emergency Stabilization Treatments to prevent further damage to life, property or natural resources.
The fire first ignited three weeks ago...when a car went over the side of the Kern River Canyon, killing the driver.
