The system that is set up when it comes to law enforcement and their ability to collect information on citizens is put in place for a reason. The reason there are so many redundencies, at least in theory, is to make sure that the federal agencies entrusted with the power of literal life and death over citizens, doesn't get ahead of itself. Unfortunately, even with the checks and balances, the DEA and other agencies under the DOJ umbrella have decided to cut corners and instead of getting warrants signed off on by judges, they skip that part and pay sources who work for airlines, private busses and other means of travel for information about travelers.
Now, two senators are trying to stop this from happening and have called upon the DOJ to answer for this obvious abuse of power.
