Story Transcript:

Ja: 夏休みが始まった日の、晴れた朝でした。
En: It was a sunny morning on the day summer vacation began.

Ja: 京都公共高校の教室には、最後の授業を楽しむ生徒たちの声が響いていました。
En: The voices of students enjoying their final class echoed through the classrooms of Kyoto Public High School.

Ja: 教室の窓からは、夏の陽射しが差し込み、緑のグラウンドが見えていました。
En: Through the classroom windows, the summer sunlight streamed in, and the green sports field was visible.

Ja: 遥（はるき）は、窓のそばに座って、心に重いものを感じていました。
En: Haruki sat by the window, feeling a weight on his mind.

Ja: 来年の大学入試が迫っているのです。
En: The university entrance exams for next year were approaching.

Ja: 彼の両親は、遥が一生懸命に勉強することを望んでいました。
En: His parents wanted him to study hard.

Ja: しかし、遥にはもう一つの夢がありました。
En: However, Haruki had another dream.

Ja: それは音楽を奏でること。

En: “Haruki, do you want to go to the Bon Festival tonight? I heard it’s going to be really fun this year!”

Ja: 遥は少し考え込みました。
En: Haruki pondered for a bit.

Ja: 両親に許してもらえるかどうか心配だったのです。
En: He was worried about whether his parents would permit it.

Ja: でも、音楽のために一歩踏み出したい。
En: But he wanted to take a step forward for the sake of music.

Ja: そう思いました。
En: That’s what he thought.

Ja: その夕方、遥の家は静かでした。
En: That evening, Haruki’s house was quiet.

Ja: 両親は彼が勉強していると信じていました。
En: His parents believed he was studying.

Ja: しかし、遥は窓から静かに家を抜け出しました。
En: However, Haruki quietly slipped out of the house through the window.

Ja: 暗い道を走りながら、心臓がドキドキと早くなりました。
En: As he ran down the dark road, his heart pounded faster.

Ja: 盆祭りの会場には、多くの人々が集まっていました。
En: At the Bon Festival venue, many people had gathered.

Ja: 提灯が灯り、色鮮やかな屋台が並んでいました。
En: Lanterns were lit, and colorful food stalls lined the area.

Ja: 遥は友達と再会し、笑顔になりました。
En: Haruki reunited with his friends and smiled.

Ja: そして、彼の心はもう一つの大事なことに動いていました。
En: And then, his heart stirred with another important matter.

Ja: 彼は友達に、「ちょっとステージに上がっていいかな？」と尋ねました。
En: He asked his friends, “Is it alright if I get on stage for a bit?”

Ja: ステージに立つと、遥の手は自然とギターに触れ、音が流れ始めました。
En: As he stood on stage, Haruki’s hands naturally touched the guitar, and the sound began to flow.

En: But, his father smiled and said, “Haruki, this is the first time I’ve really heard you sing. It was wonderful.”

Ja: 母親も言いました。「遥、音楽がこんなに大切だったとは知らなかった。これからは、勉強と音楽、どちらも頑張ってね。」
En: His mother also said, “Haruki, I didn’t realize how important music was to you. From now on, work hard at both studying and music.”

Ja: 遥は涙が出そうになりました。そして、深くうなずきました。
En: Haruki felt tears welling up. He nodded deeply.

Ja: 夏休みが終わる頃、遥は自信を持って両方の夢を追いかけることを決めました。
En: By the end of the summer vacation, Haruki decided with confidence to pursue both of his dreams.

Ja: 勉強も頑張り、音楽も練習し続けました。
En: He continued to work hard at studying and to practice music.

Ja: 両親も彼を応援するようになり、家族の絆がさらに深まりました。
En: His parents also began to support him, and the bond within their family deepened further.

Ja: その年の秋、遥の音楽と成績はどちらも素晴らしい結果を出し、彼の未来は明るく輝いていました。
En: That autumn, both Haruki’s music and his grades showed excellent results, and his future shone brightly.

Ja: そして、彼は心から感謝の気持ちを抱いていました。
