Since antiquity the role sound and music has been an integral part of the human experience. A branch of esoteric and spiritual studies also investigated the properties of sound as medium for connecting to altered states of awareness and spiritual dimensions. Some disciplines focused on sound as a healing modality, others used it to induce trance-like states that suspended the ego. Renee S.
