Kerry had a great career spanning 17 seasons in the NFL and CFL. It began with the Cincinnati Bengals where he made the team as an undrafted free agent. He also spent time with the Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks. He also spent time in the now defunct NFL Europe, where he won a World Bowl Championship with the Rhein Fire. Football started early for Kerry with his introduction to the game coming at the age of 9 playing flag football. As a very athletic child, he did play other sports as well but football was always his favourite. He excelled in high school back in Louisiana and received interest from a few schools for a scholarship. However his team didn’t throw very much so he didn’t get an opportunity to showcase his throwing ability. Many thought that he wouldn’t be able to make it at the college level as a quarterback, but he was determined to prove them wrong. The staff at McNeese State University believed in him and gave him a scholarship. He didn’t disappoint while there and led them to 2 conference championships and came close to a national title as well. His play earned him a shot in the NFL with the Bengals and he took full advantage and made the team as the 3rd string QB. His athleticism opened up opportunities for him to stay in the NFL as he was able to transition to other positions. He played a season in Washington as a running back and another 4 seasons in Seattle as a safety. Despite his ability to play other positions, he was a quarterback at heart. He was able to showcase his QB abilities in the CFL. That culminated in the 2007 season while playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He earned CFL MVP honours that year and capped it off with a Grey Cup championship. A few years later while with the Edmonton Eskimos he became kind of a mentor to the young players and that sparked his interest in coaching after his career was done. After his final season back with Saskatchewan, he began his coaching career as an intern with the New Orleans Saints. Learning from a great coach like Sean Payton and observing Drew Brees’ preparation were huge learning points for his coaching career. He was even fortunate to coach for his alma mater, McNeese St. For more information about Kerry you can go to his twitter account which is provided below.
