One of the hot topics in my former home province of Alberta s the topic around taxpayer money and school choice. There has been a suggestion that it’s time to bring together the Catholic and Public School into one. And that it’s time to remove the religion aspect out of this.
However, some appreciate the choice and the options available for their kids.
Enter the movie Backpack Full of Cash. And from the website Narrated by Matt Damon, this feature-length documentary explores the growing privatization of public schools and the resulting impact on America’s most vulnerable children. Filmed in Philadelphia, New Orleans, Nashville and other cities, it takes viewers through the tumultuous 2013-14 school year, exposing the world of education “reform” where public education – starved of resources- hangs in the balance.
Our guest today is from supportourstudents.ca She is a Public Ed Advocate. Barb Silva.
The next event is Thursday June 1 in Red Deer at the Welikoklad Centre Screening Room.
