In this episode we continue studying the Book of Exodus. In this episode, Aaron and his sons are consecrated as priests.

They are required to lay their hands on the head of an oxen to symbolically transfer their sins to him.

Then, the caul above the liver, the kidneys and the fat were burned upon the altar.

Strong’s says, the caul refers to the lobe or flap of the liver.

And, the kidney refers to an essential organ, and figuratively refers to the mind as the interior self, the reins.

Thayer’s says reins refers to the inmost thoughts, feelings, purposes, of the soul.

Jesus reveals this in the following text:

Revelation 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Having received a divine revelation regarding the reins. David asked the Lord to examine him and try his reins. He knew God's judgment would be right and rendered according to the reins of his heart, so he wanted to have clean reins. He said, in the following text:

Psalms 26:2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

Psalms 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Psalms 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

We note that the flesh of the oxen, its skin, head, legs and feet were taken outside the camp and burned; symbolizing all the parts of the body man uses to sin against the Lord.

Proverbs chapter 6 reveals how we use our feet, hands, fingers, tongue, eyes and our mouth to sin against the Lord. Here’s the text:

Proverbs 6:12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

Proverbs 6:13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

Proverbs 6:14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

Proverbs 6:15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

Proverbs 6:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Proverbs 6:18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Proverbs 6:19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

They were also required to offer a ram. When the ram was offered, the inward parts were washed, laid upon the altar and burned it was a sweet savor, unto the Lord.

Paul tells us the meaning of this sweet savor in Ephesians chapter 5 verses 1 and 2. Here’s the text:

Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

When God smelled the offering, he foresaw Christ’s sacrifice and what it would do for mankind. This brought joy to his heart and put a smile on his face.

Because of christ’s sacrifice man’s Inward parts would be washed and cleansed. And this was wonderful in God’s eyes. Something he found beautiful and endearing. Christ would give up his life, even though he could take it up again.

This was special because even though he could, take it up again, the suffering, the pain of the cross and enduring hell to save mankind was an unspeakable act of love that God would never forget.

Christ would be beaten to death and his blood would be poured out upon the earth for the souls of men.

And after he arose from the dead, he would give them the gift of His Holy Spirit.

So, because of Christ, the nature of God’s people would be changed. Because of Him their minds and imaginations would no longer be continually evil and filled with wicked thoughts.

Their reins, their hearts and minds, would be changed because He lived in them.

They too would become a sweet savor unto the Lord because they have faith in His Son.
