In this episode we continue studying the Book of Exodus. In this episode, Moses is told to hew two slab tables of stone to replace the one’s he broke.

He threw the first set to the ground when he saw the Israelites worshipping the golden calf. Although Moses didn’t know it, when he broke the first set, it was a token or sign of things to come, namely the second covenant.

The writer of Hebrews says fault was found with the old or first covenant because God found fault with the people.

Here’s the text:

Hebrews 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

Hebrews 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Hebrews 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Hebrews 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

We will see that with the new set of tables, God proclaims he is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.

This proclamation, foreshadows the grace that will come from the sacrifice, he will make on behalf of the people.

We note that the tables of stone represents the hearts of mankind. The hearts of men were broken by sin and Christ will take away their stony hearts and give them hearts of flesh, he will write the laws on their hearts and they will obey Him. As noted in Ezekiel chapter 11 verses 19 through 21.

Here's the text:

Ezekiel 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

Ezekiel 11:20 That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

Ezekiel11:21 But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.

So although, a new covenant will be established and although He will give them a new heart some will resist the Christ and refuse to submit to him. Because they are the children of the devil and his lusts they will do.

But God will sacrifice his Son to save those who WILL obey Him. He will write his laws on their hearts, and give them a desire to obey Him, by way of the new covenant.

Moses was upon the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights, and after he came down the mountain, his face shone bright like the sun.

We note as Moses' face did shine, so will ours. It is our destiny to shine bright like lights.

In Matthew chapter 13 verse 43 Jesus said, when He returns, when the wicked are gathered and sent to their place, the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of God.

An angel told Daniel that in the end the wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

Yet, if we want to shine in the future we have to shine now. If want to shine bright like the sun in the new world, we have to shine bright in this world and Paul tells us how in Philippians chapter 2 verses 12 and 15.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

And Peter tells us since we have this glorious future ahead of us, that we should be diligent to be found in peace, without spot and blameless. The only way to this is to avoid, going into a covenant agreement with the world. A covenant refers to an alliance due to common interests and this will require diligence.

2 Peter 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
