In this episode we continue studying the book of Leviticus. In this episode Moses and Aaron are given laws about leprosy.

If a person thought he had leprosy, he went to see the priest. There was a two stage testing process that required a person to be quarantined in his house called “shut up” for 14 days. After his examination the person was pronounced clean or unclean.

The priest identified the disease by looking at the person's flesh. He looked for a rising in the skin, which may appear as a lump. He also looked to see if there was a sore with a scab on it, or if there was a bright spot in his skin with white hair or a thin yellow hair, or if there was raw flesh or a boil.

A person was healed after the priest made atonement for him by sacrifice. In certain cases the leper had to put a covering upon his upper lip and cry out unclean, unclean. And made to dwell outside the camp.

Here’s the text:

Leviticus 13:45 And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.

Leviticus 13:46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.

Physical leprosy is often compared to spiritual leprosy or sin. And those with spiritual leprosy, who choose not to go to Jesus Christ, God's High Priest, to have their sins atoned for and pronounced clean will dwell outside the camp of New Jerusalem for all eternity.
