In this episode we continue studying the book of Revelation. In this episode John sees the New Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God.

The BDB says, Jerusalem means double peace. The heavenly city of Jerusalem from above and the earthly city of Jerusalem will now become one. Peace will reign on earth for all mankind.

It was God’s intention from the beginning to have earthly Jerusalem resemble the heavenly Jerusalem, in layout and design and abounding in peace. Saying if the children of Israel obeyed him they would have days like heaven upon the earth. Here’s the text:

Deuteronomy 11:18  Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

Deuteronomy 11:19  And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deuteronomy 11:20  And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:

Deuteronomy 11:21  That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

John says the gates of the city will not be shut by day for there will be no night there.

Night has always been a symbol of trouble or adversity, Strong’s says, it is a part of the day that twists away from the light. Therefore it becomes dark. Thayer’s says, night refers to the time of death, the time for the deeds of sin and shame, the time for moral stupidity and darkness and the time when the weary and the drunken give themselves to slumber.

Gates were shut to prevent entrance into cities. They were guarded by watchman, protecting residents from thieves, murderers, spies and all people with ill will.

There will be no need for watchman because the wicked are outside the city they can’t come in to it.

The chapter concludes by saying in verse 27,

"And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life."

God knows the works of each person and takes note of it.

God is a record keeper, he notes the good and the bad things occurring throughout the earth.

Proverbs 15:3  The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Nothing escapes his view, or recording, so the best thing we can do is do what Jesus said, in Luke chapter 21 verse 34 through 36.

Luke 21:34  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Luke 21:35  For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

Luke 21:36  Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
