mostra más'Tis the season of giving, for the gathering of family & friends, and the hopes of a new year. It’s also time to be super nostalgic for Christmases past & the joy that it once brought to these cold, black Gen X hearts!
There was no better way to get ready for the visit of jolly old St. Nick than the TV movies and specials that would be shown all throughout the month of December. Of course, these were the days of the Big 3 networks and having to check the TV Guide for showtimes. But what a collection of shows.
A Charlie Brown Christmas. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. ANY version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. And of course, the OG Rankin - Bass stop motion classics! I mean, whether it was Rudolph, Frosty, or Santa, these were all awesome to watch. And I don’t know about you, but my kids love them as well! They are absolutely timeless.
While the 80's entries into the Christmas pantheon seemed to have a little more of a biting tone (I’m looking at you Christmas Vacation), those 60’s & 70’s movies had a spirit of joy & wonder that still shines through - without a hint of irony or cynicism.
What are your favorite Christmas movies from childhood?
