EJ and MH welcomed model, actor, music artist CJ Hammond to the Black in Sports Platform. CJ, who grew up in Denver, Colorado told his story of perseverance, family and self-belief on way to stardom in Los Angeles, CA.

CJ started his foundation in sports at early age clinging to Baseball & Football. He described the highs in lows of high school football in Colorado, the recruiting scene and following up former NFL Running Back Lendale White at Chatfield High School. After injury his Senior Year, the interest from Power 5 Colleges like Kansas State University went by and CJ had to reroute to Junior College to get his dream alive. MH and EJ joined in discussing mental health and identity of athletes when dealing with injury and transition in life. After an injury in Junior College CJ took his talents to Greeley, Colorado at THE UNC Bears. MH and CJ shared a moment about football at University of Northern Colorado.

CJ described his continuing battles with injury leading to important decision in his life. CJ took the leap of faith and pursued a new career in modelling and acting in Los Angeles. The fellas had a laugh about CJ’s first few weeks in LA working sales and meeting Drake in what was described as a “Real World House.” CJ’s first big modeling deal was his last day on the Sales job. MH described the moment he found out CJ modeling career took off and seeing him on “LifeTime Fridays”

From acting and modeling, EJ touch on CJ’s community passion. Engage the Vision Foundation is a non profit organization which “empowers inner city boys and girls and their families to set and successfully achieve life goals in a joyful, positive and prosperous ways, while making contributions to their immediate surroundings, communities and world.” CJ talked about what giving back to the ‘Young Kings’ in South LA means to him and he shows love.

Finally, the fellas discussed CJ’s budding stardom in the music industry. From childhood CJ described his love of singing and music from his father Carl. CJ described his goal on bridging the gap of many different genres into his own appreciation of art. The dream of singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl is at the forefront!
