If you think Twitter is your saving grace when it comes to college recruiting, you could be setting yourself up for a letdown. College coaches do use Twitter, but not in the way you think they do. They don't sit on social media all day and scroll through clips to find the right fit. They do however answer DMs from people they have relationships with. If they don't know you, the chances of them interacting with you are slim to none. Do you ever get random tweets from strangers? How do you respond to them? The best way to get recruited from a school of your choice is to build a relationship with them. Find out about the school, what they offer, where they are located, what programs they have, and find out if you are good for them. Not all schools fit into your wheelhouse.

You may think, "if they want me, they will find me." I'm sorry to tell you, there are more pressing issues for the colleges than using social media to find you. There are plenty of athletes that have relationships with college coaches that have a better chance of playing for them.

I'm not saying Twitter is all bad, I'm just saying...use it correctly. There is a place for social media in the recruiting world. You just have to use it the right way and use it to your benefit.

Twitter can be a great tool for college recruiting if used correctly. However, if you're not careful, you can easily mess up your chances of getting recruited. One way to ruin your chances of getting recruited is by posting inappropriate content on Twitter. This could be anything from offensive jokes to explicit photos. Coaches are looking for recruits who represent their school in a positive light both on and off the field, so avoid posting anything that could reflect poorly on you or your team. Also, be wary of anything you like and retweet. Any user (including a college coach) can see what you have liked and retweeted, so make sure they are things you endorse and that they would be proud of.
