Not every Copilot is the same. This episode explains Copilot for Microsoft Fabric in plain English for data beginners, analysts and IT pros, showing where it works across Data Factory, notebooks, the warehouse and Power BI, what you need to turn it on, and why human review still matters.

Key takeaways
Worth quoting
“Copilot for fabric is an AI assistant built right into Microsoft fabric. You type what you need in plain English, and it writes the code, builds the queries, or creates the reports for you.” – Mirko Peters (01:31)
“Copilot only works with data you already have access to. It respects your existing permissions. If you can't see a table in the warehouse, Copilot can't see it either.” – Mirko Peters (07:48)

Key takeaways
- Copilot in Microsoft Fabric is a data-focused AI assistant, distinct from Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot, that turns plain English into SQL, DAX, PySpark, pipelines and Power BI reports.
- It needs a paid Fabric capacity and an admin-enabled tenant setting, costs nothing extra, and only works with data you already have permission to see.
- Treat every output as a first draft: clean, well-modeled data and human review remain essential, while Copilot frees IT pros for architecture and tuning.
