December 4: Divine Strength and Holiness.

Psalm 92:1-10:
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night, on an instrument of ten strings, on the lute,
and on the harp, with harmonious sound. For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands. O Lord, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep. A senseless man does not know, nor does a fool understand this. When the wicked spring up like grass, and when all the workers of iniquity flourish, it is that they may be destroyed forever. But You, Lord, are on high forevermore. For behold, Your enemies, O Lord, for behold, Your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.

Psalm 93:1-5:
The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever.


What beautiful psalms we are studying today!
The first psalm is a song that the Jews raised to the Lord on the Sabbath. Perhaps it was one of the most common to sing on that day that Jews observed every week and to this day do. However, this song declares that day and night the psalmist recognized the great love, compassion, justice and truth that God grants to His people. What's more, the psalmist was so happy with all that God had done that he was literally shouting with joy the praises of the Lord in thanks.

The verse that I want to highlight from this psalm is when he confessed that God is the one who multiplied his strength like a bull (wild ox), in the RVR 1960 Spanish version it says: “like a buffalo”. This animal is one of the strongest in the animal kingdom. Although its physical bearing seems vulnerable due to its slow movements, its strength is such that it has gored lions that have wanted to hunt it. For humans, the buffalo is vital to work the land and to obtain good crops the bull is used to plow the land.
Cry out today to the Lord who will give you the strength to face the roaring lion that is looking for someone to devour, trust that God will give you the strength to move forward and raise your family afloat if they find themselves in a difficult situation.

The next psalm, 93, is a short psalm but full of beautiful words and phrases that exalt the Lord, His might and dominion over everything on earth and in heaven. The last verse is one to highlight; in the 1960 Spanish version it says: "Salvation suits your house." In this version it clarifies us that the psalmist is exalting the holiness of God in the sanctuary as an ornament that beautifies and really draws the worshipers towards God. When one moves away from the Lord and the days go by, the soul begins to feel the dryness and the disturbance due to the contamination produced by being near or involved in sinful things that take away your peace. That is when one returns thirsty and with a strong longing for the holiness of God. The purity found in the temple and specifically when many join together to worship the Lord. His holiness descends and begins to purify, cleanse and restore that incomprehensible and inexplicable peace. The holiness of God is the greatest attraction to continue on this path, keeping the faith while we are in passing in this world.

Salmo 92:1-10 RVA2015:
Bueno es alabar al SEÑOR, cantar salmos a tu nombre, oh Altísimo. Bueno es anunciar por la mañana tu misericordia y tu verdad en las noches con el arpa de diez cuerdas y la lira, con el tono suave del arpa. Ciertamente me has alegrado, oh SEÑOR, con tus hechos; grito de gozo por las obras de tus manos. ¡Cuán grandes son tus obras, oh SEÑOR! Muy profundos son tus pensamientos. El hombre necio no sabe, y el insensato no entiende esto: que los impíos brotan como la hierba, y que todos los que hacen iniquidad florecen para ser destruidos para siempre. Pero tú, oh SEÑOR, para siempre eres el Altísimo. Porque he aquí tus enemigos, oh SEÑOR; porque he aquí, tus enemigos perecerán. Serán dispersados todos los que hacen iniquidad. Pero tú enaltecerás mi poder como el de un toro salvaje, y sobre mí verterás aceite fresco.

Salmo 93:1-5 RVA2015:
¡El SEÑOR reina! Se ha vestido de magnificencia. El SEÑOR se ha vestido de poder y se ha ceñido. También afirmó el mundo, y no se moverá. Firme es tu trono desde la antigüedad; tú eres desde la eternidad. Alzaron los ríos, oh SEÑOR, alzaron los ríos su sonido; alzaron los ríos su estruendo. El SEÑOR en las alturas es más poderoso que el estruendo de muchas aguas, más que las recias olas del mar. Tus testimonios son muy firmes. La santidad adorna tu casa, oh SEÑOR, a través de los años.


¡Qué hermosos salmos los que estamos escudriñando hoy!
El primer salmo es un cántico que los judios elevaban al Señor en el día de reposo. Tal vez era uno de los más comunes para cantar en ese día que cada semana los judios observaban y hasta el día de hoy lo hacen. Sin embargo, este canto declara que día y noche el salmista reconocía el gran amor, compasión, justicia y verdad que Dios concede a su pueblo. Es más, el salmista estaba tan feliz por todo lo que Dios ha hecho que estaba literalmente gritando de alegría las alabanzas al Señor en agradecimiento.

El verso que quiero destacar de este salmo es cuando él confesó que Dios es el que le multiplicaba las fuerzas como un toro, en la versión RVR 1960 dice: “como búfalo”. Este animal es uno de los más fuertes del reino animal. Aunque su porte físico parece vulnerable por sus movimientos lentos, su fuerza es tal que ha corneado leones que han querido cazarlo. Para el ser humano, el búfalo es vital para trabajar la tierra, pues para obtener buenas cosechas se utiliza al toro para arar la tierra.
Clama hoy al Señor que te dará la fuerzas para enfrentar al león rugiente que anda buscando a quien devorar, confía que Dios te dará la fortaleza para salir adelante y sacar a flote a tu familia si se encuentran en alguna situación difícil.

El siguiente salmo, el 93, es un salmo corto pero lleno de palabras y frases hermosas que exaltan al Señor, su poderío y dominio sobre todo en la tierra y en el cielo. El último verso es uno para destacar; en la versión 1960 dice: "La salvación conviene a tu casa". En esta versión nos aclara que el salmista está exaltando la santidad de Dios en el santuario como un adorno que embellece y realmente atrae a los adoradores hacia Dios. Cuando uno se aleja del Señor y van pasando los días, el alma comienza a sentir la sequedad y la perturbación por la contaminación producida por estar cerca o envuelto en cosas pecaminosas que te quitan la paz. Ahí es cuando uno regresa sediento y con un anhelo fuerte de la santidad de Dios. La pureza que se encuentra en el templo y, específicamente, cuando muchos se unen a adorar al Señor. Su santidad desciende y comienza a purificar, limpiar y devolver esa paz incomprensible e inexplicable. La santidad de Dios es el mayor atractivo para continuar en este camino, manteniendo la fe mientras estamos de pasada en este mundo.
