Comparison doesn’t sound super threatening. It’s easy to tell someone to stop comparing yourself to others. It’s even easier (and cheesier - although true) to say, comparison is the thief of joy. Who really wants to be reminded of that when they;re looking at the mess or their best next to someone else.
The scary thing about comparison is the connection it has to low self-esteem, depression, and mental health issues. Not everyone copes with comparison the same and it can really affect yur quality of life and the quality of your relationships.
Melissa Ambrosini is a best-selling author, “queen of mastering your mean girl,” dancer and former actress. She’s learned how to work with your inner critic and allow the energy of your emotions to go through you instead of fighting and suppressing them.
Lisa is speaking with Melissa to understand how comparison is a disease that impacts self worth. As important as relationships are to us all, whether you admit it or not, accepting that the relationship you have with yourself is the most important relationship you’ll have in your lifetime.
Regardless of the trauma you’ve experienced in your childhood, awareness about what you’re saying to yourself about yourself is critical, and so is the story you’ve been carrying with you since then. Melissa wants to remind you to embrace your uniqueness and know that you are the best in the world at being you.
