Weather Outlook, Daily Devotional, This Day in Good morning.
Good morning.
Uh oh.
There's a warning out.
We just want to let everybody know right now this is to be taken seriously but not to
scare you.
Hamas has declared this National Day of Jihad or Global Jihad Day.
Yeah.
We are not going to be intimidated but we are going to be on the watch and ready to respond
in case of any emergency.
Be aware.
So now it's time to elevate your day.
Right.
October 13th, Friday the 13th and a lot to pack into this program today.
First real quick weather in Scott's Bluff 40 degrees right now.
73% air quality.
22 mile an hour wind is just blowing like crazy around the valley which makes our wind chill
at 19 degrees.
So cold and windy conditions exist right now.
We're only a high of 48 today and that high wind warning will continue.
Weather is sponsored by the Braska Panhandle Weather Alerts and Road Conditions.
Facebook group as well as Kimball Henderson Agency.
That's American Family Insurance in Scott's Bluff.
In other places around the country we've got a lot of clouds.
What are we looking at for temperatures, Darnell?
Looks like in McCook it's 46 degrees.
Lexington, Nebraska it's 43 and in Omaha it's 52 degrees.
In Cheyenne 35 and they're getting a snow as well.
Denver 41 and Sunny skies and same in Colorado Springs.
Hutchison, Kansas is 53 degrees.
Great Falls is 44 degrees and cloudy.
And then down in Wichita Falls, Texas 64 degrees.
Sunny skies and it's a bit windy.
A bit windy and should clear up later.
Sunny skies is 75.
That's quite a drop from yesterday's 93.
So now let's move on into our daily devotional.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
And without faith it is impossible to please God.
Because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who
earnestly seek him.
Seek ye first, the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.
Everything is possible for one who believes.
Welcome to Faith Matters.
Today we're going to speak out the promises.
This is that five day devotional.
This is day five from acres of diamonds.
Only is a word from God about your future.
It's not about where you are, it's about where you will be.
Where you are may look nothing like acres of diamonds, but you have faith that one day
it will.
Though God speaks to us any number of ways, the most obvious way is through the Bible.
The word of God is full of promises that we can prophesy over our lives.
Then the Lord said to me,
You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.
Jeremiah 1-12.
God told Jeremiah that he watches over his word to perform it.
Most powerful prayer is reminding him of the promises he made to you in his word.
When God makes a promise, he always keeps it.
This is exactly what Daniel did.
We read in the Bible that he waged war in prayer with a prophecy found in the scroll
of Jeremiah, which predicted the end of Israel's 70-year captivity.
I've been looking at my calendar at Daniel prayed.
Today is 70 years.
What are you going to do about this prophecy that's been hanging over my head?
God answered by releasing his people from captivity and reestablishing the nation of Israel.
The power of life and death is in the tongue.
Speak because you serve the God of the impossible.
Speak because nothing happens in the spirit world until you open your mouth and say it.
Start today and speak life to your dreams.
You're calling, your family, even your body.
Prophecy that the sun is going to shine again and that you will see the goodness of the
Lord while you are still alive.
It may have been bad whatever you went through, but prophesy that you were coming out of it,
that you were about to turn the corner on your miracle.
You may have had a setback.
You may have messed up, but God has not through with you yet.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10, 23.
Pray today not for God to give you words of comfort, arrest, but to receive fresh words
to fight against the enemy.
It does not matter how long you've been fighting.
If the prophecy has not yet come to pass, if you have not yet uncovered acres of diamonds,
keep waging the good fight, stay in the battlefield.
God will bring the victory, as he promised, and grace to you in peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us in Christ with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 1, 2, and 3.
So in summary this week, we learned in the first day not to quit too soon, and that day
too we learn the power of now, just do it.
And then walking through the fire is important, so don't minimize those struggles.
Get through them and know there is a purpose behind them.
And then let down your bucket, you've got to trust, have faith and just go for it and
then speak out your promises today.
Thank you Pastor Franklin for this devotional.
And Lord we thank you so much Lord.
Thank you for your word.
Thank you for this time together.
Thank you for giving us this breath to be able to speak these words and to think these
thoughts and to read your words Lord.
Thank you for giving us life.
Help us to live it abundantly and to draw others nearer to you.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
Don't worry about anything.
Instead pray about everything.
Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done.
Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.
His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.
Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right and pure and lovely and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Then the God of peace will be with you.
You talked a little bit about Friday the 13th.
So what have we got for this day in history on this fateful day?
So let's talk a little bit about the superstition, how it started.
Okay, let's talk about that.
We don't believe in that stuff.
Now some trace it way back to the Norse.
The Norse following.
They say that the 13th God and the Valhalla dinner of the gods was Loki and Loki persuaded
one of the other gods to kill another God.
Okay.
It wasn't a Friday, but it was just the 13th.
So the number 13 has always been unlucky, right?
And throughout many cultures, also the 13th guest at the Last Supper was Judas.
Okay.
But I also heard a pastor say the other day that there is a significance to Friday the
13th.
They say that the day that the angel of death passed over the Israelites was a Friday the
13th.
Passover.
Yeah.
Passover was on the 13th.
Interesting, huh?
So it was an unlucky day for everybody else.
But this day in history, let's go way back.
Okay, how far back?
How about 54?
That's pretty far.
What happened?
Emperor Claudius was poisoned.
His 17 year old stepson Nero took the throne.
Oh, Nero.
Yeah.
Oh, evil Nero.
And then in 1845, we're going to jump way ahead then.
After that, 1845, Texas ratifies a state constitution.
Well, here's the president I never heard of on this day in history, Chester Arthur in
1884, sets the prime meridian for international use through the international meridian conference.
The prime meridian was set as the longitude that passes through the royal observatory
in Greenwich, London.
Greenwich meantime.
There you go.
Right?
In 1924, Mecca falls to the Saudi forces.
And the first iron lung was used in 1928.
That contraption was used at Boston's Children's Hospital to assist an eight year old girl who
could not breathe on her own because of advanced polio.
We did a podcast on that.
You can catch that on our episodes.
You can see those machines.
Oh, they look scary to me.
They do.
It's an iron contraption that you're just locked in.
Yeah.
In 1960, Fidel Castro executes dissidents.
Just in 1960?
Or did you get it over here?
This day in history, he executed a whole bunch of people.
Okay.
I didn't find a number.
Yeah.
But well, just shortly thereafter in 1967, the first ABA game, the ABA who remembers ABA.
D-d-d-d-d.
The old Denver Nuggets were in the ABA, the American Basketball Association.
Well, the first game was between the Oakland Oaks and the Anaheim Amigos.
The Amigos lost.
134 to 129.
Oh, they weren't so Amigos-ish after that, I'm sure.
But the ABA remained in existence until financial difficulties forced it to disband in 76 and
merge with the older NBA.
And it was fun because just today I watched the ABA championship game between the Nuggets
and the Nets.
Yep.
With Dr. J against David Thompson and Dan Essel.
And that was that game in 76, the very last game before they disbanded.
Interesting.
Wow, that is interesting.
Good timing.
Yep.
Watching that today.
Well, in 1983, Maritec Mobile Communications established the first public cell service.
And now, I remember the first cell phone call, you know, with the bag phone in the car.
Right.
And that's not what they're talking about he
