The Edinburgh Football Show - a standalone interview with Dougie Bell in conversation with David Tanner.

The midfielder played for Hibernian in seasons 1986-87 and 1987-88.

Not a long spell and so it’s not a long interview but it’s an interesting time in the club's history.
The chat mentions some famous players, including John Collins, Alan Rough, Andy Goram, Mickey Weir, Gordon Rae, Paul Kane, Graham Mitchell, Tommy McIntyre and the management team of Alex Miller, Peter Cormack and Martin Ferguson.

We felt it a good time to do this interview as Dougie has published his life story:

"Signed Twice by Fergie - A biography of Dougie Bell".

The Foreward is by SirAlex Ferguson.

It’s worth getting behind the book as all proceeds are going to the Beatson Cancer Charity and Strachcarrom Hospice. Dougie wrote the book with a friend, Archie McLeod, following the death of his wife, Hazel.

At just £5.99, it’s worth going on Amazon and buying .

Dougie made his name as a creative midfielder - with a penchant for playing keeping uppy-during games.

He was in the Aberdeen team that clinched the title at Easter Road in 1980, although injured for the Cup Winner Winners cup final, he was MOTM in the semi-final and played in the Super Cup win over European Champions Hamburg.

His next move was Jock Wallace's Rangers, where he eventually lost his place to player-manager Graeme Souness.

New Hibernian manager Alex Miller made Dougie the first signing of what would be a decade in charge at Easter Road, Graham Mitchell and Dougie’s former Aberdeen team mate Tommy McIntyre joined at the same time.

He made his Hibernian debut at Falkirk on the 3rd of January 1987, scoring the opener in a 3-0 win - George McCluskey and 18-year-old John Collins were the other scorers at Brockville that day.

Among Dougie's favourite games: Hibernians first win in 23 derbies, back in October 87.

It's an interesting chat - we hope you enjoy it; if you do please, leave a rating and a comment on your podcast app or at www.ratethispodcast.co/edinburghfooty. It really helps
