The pandemic has had a lot of impacts on us - especially on our children's development and education - one way we may not have thought about is how the lack of physical education can actually impact how young people learn to move - and not just now - but for the rest of their lives.

Being able to roll, hop and throw are all motor skills that the body has to learn - and for many young people - their only exposure to these types of skills are through physical education. Kids don’t move as much as they used to with increases in screen time soaring so learning how to move at school is becoming more important than ever. Just like reading where literacy is improved with education and practice - physical literacy also needs regular exposure.

Physical literacy is defined as the ability to move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the whole person.

Today we chat with David Arsenault - who after climbing to the highest levels of elite althlete training and competition decided that he would take his talents and use them to train those individuals where he can have the greatest impact and that audience was children. he runs a charitable organization called champions for life which is dedicated to helping children to develop physical literacy through their schools, communities, and families - especially in at-risk communities.

He shares why physical literacy might be the most important subject in school for our long term health.
