Few people get the chance to earn an MBA while doing a startup with their grandfather. Fewer still then move from a PhD program in Strategic Management into a faculty position at Lindenwood University in the same year!

Today, Dr. Karl Kammerer is the Director of the Duree Center for Entrepreneurship at Lindenwood’s Hammond Institute for Free Enterprise. Among other things, The Duree Center runs a program called Who Owns the Ice House?

The program - based on the book of the same name - was created by the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative and uses the inspiring real-life story of Clifton Taulbert and the lessons he learned from his Uncle Cleve - a black man in Jim Crow Mississippi - to explore eight life lessons from this unlikely entrepreneur.

Like the Entrepreneurially Thinking podcast, the Who Owns the Ice House? program is focused on exploring and inspiring the mindset of the entrepreneur.

Christy, Cheryl and Karl discuss the way entrepreneurs think and how that thinking can lead to inspiration and action. A deep belief in oneself, personal integrity and an innate sense of worth are among the traits in so many of us that are at the heart of successful entrepreneurial endeavors - not just for a chosen few, but for everyone and anyone who has the vision and passion to strive beyond their current circumstances.

Karl earned an MBA in 2009 and a PhD in Management in 2016, both from the University of Kansas. During his PhD program, Kammerer was a fellow in the Madison and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship – a distinct honor among PhD students at KU as students are chosen for the fellowship because they “demonstrate the promise to make significant contributions to their fields of study and society as a whole.” Prior to entering the PhD program, Kammerer co-founded a small family business. The company, Professional Toxicology Services, Inc., continues its operations to this day providing products and services to organizations to ensure their compliance with state and federal laboratory testing regulations.
