It's the Real Thing, Slackers! This week i gush over my favorite band of all time, with the lead singer that changed my entire perspective on music.

Starting in the alternative/punk scene of San Francisco, when the band fired lead singer Chuck Mosley, they hired a 19 year-old kid from the Northern California city of Eureka, who would change the band's fortunes and thrust them into international fame.

With a top 10 hit in "Epic", the band would follow up their platinum selling "The Real Thing" with the weirdest, most confusing follow up to a hit record (possibly ever) with 1992's "Angel Dust". After a messy breakup with founding guitarist Jim Martin, the band embarked on a journey to fully engross themselves in ever conceivable genre of music, releasing what might be my personal favorite album, "King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime".

After a mediocre and ironically named "Album of the Year", the band disbanded, with members going on to different projects. But after 18 years, the band resurfaced, reunited and more potent than ever, releasing a triumphant return to form in "Sol Invictus". While some Covid related issues have stalled their most recent touring plans, when they get back on the road, I just have to say that as a live band, 10/10 would recommend.

Roddy Bottom, Billy Gould, Mike Patton, Mike "Puffy" Bordin, & Jon Hudson. They are Faith No More, and they "Rock, Hudson, rock"!
