nice ringtone for you guys today you will be able to buy a version of this uh a web version but you've got you've got it free if you come to the podcasts basically but also what I really like about doing these podcasts when you teach or when you tell somebody how to do something you learn much much better than you would by just sort of doing something and then forgetting about it that's why teachers are so clever because they're telling you all the time and it perfects their skill that they've become so so good at something um so I really like this I mean I was traditionally I was a Suzuki piano teacher and I've sort of gone you know the other way now I've been taken by the electronic world and I love electronic music you know it's for me since lockdown it's absolutely the most wonderful enabling experience that I've ever ever had because I always wanted a band you know and I during lockdown I think you know we had to kind of do other things you know how do you make music that sounds rich and textured when you're all by yourself well this is where digital music really comes into its own and yeah you sure you do need uh something worthy and interesting to start with I'm not going to take that away because actually the it's the acoustic energies that come through performance that you know trigger the sort of everything else that that comes after it and if you start with something very electrical and you start putting it through processes you're you're actually just you're going to end up with something really inhumane I believe so I always record acoustically or semi-acoustically when I use my keyboard it's midi but I play it I play it live so that it has all the energy that comes you know what it comes from my body it comes from my shoulders it comes from my it comes from my torso my spine it comes from my brain you know it comes from my subconscious and that's what you know the best musicians aren't necessarily the ones who can play you know really really well they're the ones who transcend boundaries with with messaging you know um anyway I obviously I can't sing you know by now I can't actually sing but these these little um you know Jingles or podcasts or whatever you want to call them I sound like I can sing a bit and you know the point is anybody can do that so you start off with the vocal and then you do stuff to it and we're really lucky because if you're a bit Out Of Tune you can put yourself in tune if you want to extend a syllable you know on logic pro you just open up the editor and you extend that syllable I mean it's fantastic guys really good anyway I'm going through this kind of folky phase at the moment so you know very basic arpeggios on the guitar um but I wanted something that sounded a bit like 70s folk music so you know when you think about um or or let's well Lena Kern you know when he's got the ladies in the backgrounds because these are really backing singer samples he's got the ladies in the background who are just harmonized so beautifully and you've got Simon and Garfunkel who whose harmonies were just pick so I'm not saying I can emulate those I'm not saying that at all but what I'm saying is I can be inspired by this idea of layering and harmony so that's what I've done today I've did two tracks and I did actually I don't normally do this but I did sing both tracks ad-lib and one was a minor and one was C major um I find it much easier to sing in a minor key because I'm not a trained singer and I don't know why I guess it's because it's more like speech for me maybe so anyway I've tweaked them and I've come up with something that sounds like a really pretty Harmony and I used the vocal chorus plugin 60s chorus on both of the samples I didn't use um The Click track to time it or rather I didn't use the groove track so I've just sort of Let It Go free so I sang it freely but I did have the quick track in my head really good idea to do that obviously for obvious reasons but you know what the the singer doesn't have to be bang on time I don't like it when the music's bang on time with the with the instruments I think it sounds wooden I think it sounds boxy so um what else can I say I think that's it really I I guess it's a broadcast standard um plug-in which is on my legacy now when I when I look down logic Legacy that means it you know I've used it before and I like it so I've got all my sort of go-to favorites and I usually use um hip hop wide for a dance track which I'm working on this week actually I'm going to do another Well CDM cerebral dance music that's what I make um okay that's enough talking for now yeah so here we go take me down to Mexico free to use and this is also it'll also be on iTunes but you can use this for free download it and use it for personal use for free okay guys back tomorrow
