Jacob wishes to return home, but Laban recognizes that he was blessed by Jacob and tells him to name his price and he will pay. Jacob begins serving Laban for a share in the cattle and indicates that his wages will be whatsoever comes forth speckled and spotted or gray. Laban then swindles Jacob by giving most of them to his sons and sending them off a distance of three days and Jacob retaliates by conniving a way to cause the cattle to yield speckled and spotted offspring.
