mostra másChristmas was so much simpler as a kid. All it really took to make you happy was that one big Santa gift. And boy, did the 70’s & 80’s have some great toys! This episode I recount some of my favorite toys from each year - I have a weirdly specific memory when it comes to Christmas - going from 1976 until about 1984.
From Remco’s McDonald’s Playland (and figures), to the Millennium Falcon, to the King of Pop, those Christmas mornings were full of joy & gratitude, that somehow transcended the obvious consumerism on display. Sure, there may have been a year or two with no real “must have gift”, but even then the excitement of unwrapping even the most mundane of gifts (who doesn’t like Christmas socks?), was palpable.
At some point Christmas becomes so much more about the giving than receiving, but there is that odd time in your mid teens where the shine of the day is just a little less than it used to be. Having a house full of teens now, I can see it happening, and it is such a bummer. It is also a part of life and growing up - I just hope they recognize the cure for that is the giving!
Now on to 2024!
