I don't live in Jones County, but I like what the Free State Citizens Action Union (FSCAU) is doing to obtain symbolic validation of their Second Amendment Rights. So many rights and protections are being stripped of us from the federal level, making it seem meaningful to pursue this local avenue to remind us all of what is at risk if we do not take a stand at a local level. For Jones County folks, it's there; for me, it's in Oktibbeha County. The following represents what I took away from both Thursday's newspaper article and Buck's Saturday commentary. Objective To send a strong message to our legislators on the value we place on our ability to defend our home, just as the Ukrainian people are defending their nation. But, unfortunately, we are at risk of that right now because of all the people coming to the United States from other countries who have no commitment, honor, or investment in our Constitutional rights and protections. Intent Use our constitutional rights and responsibilities to defend our freedom and families. We aren't getting creative to find a zebra; we're just claiming our constitutional right. It's a better defense for horrific dictators like Putin and Xi. Strategy Being able to bear arms is a responsibility as much as it is a right. Our forefathers gave us stewardship over this nation based on God-given freedoms. It's no secret freedom isn't free, and money's not the currency – it's the blood and spirit of our citizens. The symbol reminds everyone that our rights and responsibilities are fortified through symbolic means. Those symbols come in the form of ceremonies, visual reminders, or formal documents to attest to the importance of a right that is historically supported. I'm glad Jones county is pursuing Second Amendment Sanctuary Status. Timing Ukraine is a glaring example. Just as Buck said, there will likely come a time, especially if Putin wins, that Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea will come after us. We must operate from a position of strength, not the weakness of our current impotent President and the Demolition Leftists. The current news bites of war the media gives us from Russia, North Korea, and China includes blatant talk of nuclear consequences, folks. This is the time for us to resurrect our determination and American know-how that makes our nation envy others. Solidarity Buck is right about operating as a united front, solidarity for every American's constitutional rights and protections for ourselves, but especially our children.
