Is Karma real? The concept of Karma has ancient religious roots and as such is an abstract idea that has been found to improve how society works. The reason is how humans function. If people feel they relate to you and you are likeable then you are more likely to be included in a social group and rewarded with opportunities to advance in the hierarchy rather than punished and expelled. We have evolved in this fashion as we are social animals. In modern parlance therefore karma is how likeable we are through our personality and actions. The more authentic we are the better the karma as the veil will always eventually drop if the charm is false. Karma also makes life less rigid as it lets you get away with indiscretions of varying size and duration but it's always a balance and has its limits. For instance psychopaths (who are innately unlikeable)are over represented in the prison population but charming psychopaths are over represented amongst CEOs. But those where the veil drops or they overload the scales of wrong doing versus charm meet their karma.
