Levítico 18: Moralidad en un Mundo Inmoral.

Levítico 18:1-5, 24-30:
1 El SEÑOR habló a Moisés diciendo: 2 “Habla a los hijos de Israel y diles que yo soy el SEÑOR, su Dios. 3 No harán como hacen en la tierra de Egipto, en la cual habitaron. Tampoco harán como hacen en la tierra de Canaán a la cual los llevo. No seguirán sus costumbres. 4 Pondrán por obra mis decretos y guardarán mis estatutos para andar en ellos. Yo soy el SEÑOR su Dios. 5 Por tanto, guardarán mis estatutos y mis decretos, los cuales el hombre que los cumpla, por ellos vivirá. Yo, el SEÑOR.

24 “No se contaminarán con ninguna de estas cosas, porque con todas estas cosas se han contaminado los pueblos que yo echo de delante de ustedes. 25 La tierra ha sido contaminada; por eso castigué la maldad de ellos sobre ella, y la tierra vomitó a sus habitantes. 26 Pero ustedes, guarden mis estatutos y mis decretos, y no hagan ninguna de todas estas abominaciones, ni el natural ni el extranjero que habita entre ustedes 27 (porque los habitantes de la tierra que los antecedieron hicieron todas estas abominaciones, y la tierra fue contaminada); 28 no sea que la tierra los vomite por haberla contaminado, como vomitó a la nación que los antecedió. 29 Porque cualquier persona que haga alguna de todas estas abominaciones será excluida de entre su pueblo. 30 Guarden, pues, mi ordenanza, no cometiendo las cosas abominables que se practicaban antes de ustedes; y no se contaminen con ellas. Yo, el SEÑOR, vuestro Dios”.

Por la sensibilidad de este capítulo, saltamos algunos de los versos para que usted los pueda leer después.y, a su discreción, compartir con sus hijos.

Este capítulo es una advertencia acerca de las malas costumbres que existieron en Egipto y en la tierra de Canaán donde el pueblo de Israel recibió la tierra prometida, expulsando a los habitantes que vivían allí.
Aquí vemos la razón por la cual el Señor decidió sacar a los cananeo de su tierra: ellos practicaban la inmoralidad, especialmente entre miembros de la familia inmediata, y aquí el Señor es específico nombrando los parientes que los israelitas debían evitar relacionarse carnalmente.
Las relaciones inmorales como el incesto, Dios las aborrece. Esto trae corrupción, abuso y degradación a la humanidad. Dios quería que su pueblo Israel no sufriera las consecuencias que estas relaciones traían a la tierra.
La falta de dominio propio y el respeto al prójimo fue lo que hizo que los cananeos fueran castigados y eliminados.
Lastimosamente, el pueblo de Israel también cayó en este pecado, y comenzaron a desobedecer la advertencia de Dios, y continuaron practicando lo que vieron en Egipto y lo que aprendieron en Canaán.
Pienso que la humanidad, guiados por el pecado, no han aprendido las consecuencias nefastas de la degradación de la moralidad. Lo ven como algo anticuado pero a la vez se escandalizan cuando un criminal, lleno de lujuria y violencia, comete crímenes en contra de mujeres y niños.
La misma sociedad no ha aceptado que grandes civilizaciones perecieron causadas por esta degradación. Sodoma y Gomorra, el Imperio Griego, el Imperio Romano, todos estos y muchos más durante siglos fueron de bajada hasta que no hubo oportunidad de redimirse y sus imperios perecieron. La historia ha podido registrar sus malos hábitos y sus excesos, incluyendo la degradación de las relaciones íntimas, pisoteando el orden establecido por Dios para la relación apropiada entre un hombre y una mujer.
Hoy en día seguimos viendo esta degradación como la era moderna de la humanidad.
La humanidad corrompida ha aceptado estas prácticas en nombre de la libertad de expresión y el derecho a la privacidad, pero nosotros debemos, como comunidad cristiana, enseñar a nuestros hijos y la siguiente generación que, aunque la sociedad admita esta clases de estilos de vida, es mejor obedecer a Dios, hacer lo correcto ante Sus ojos, en Su orden, para tener la bendición de Dios a largo plazo.
Así que, si nosotros nos guardamos de las prácticas de los antepasados (Egipto) y de las que vendrán más adelante y que se ponga de moda (Canaán), estaremos bajo la bendición de Dios y también nuestras familias.

Leviticus 18: Morality in an Immoral World

Leviticus 18:1-5, 24-30:
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. According to the doings of the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, you shall not do; and according to the doings of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, you shall not do; nor shall you walk in their ordinances. You shall observe My judgments and keep My ordinances, to walk in them: I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.

‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. For whoever commits any of these abominations, the persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
‘Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God.’ ”

Due to the sensitivity of this chapter, we skip some of the verses so that you can read them later and, at your discretion, share with your children.

This chapter is a warning about the bad customs that existed in Egypt and in the land of Canaan where the people of Israel received the promised land, expelling the inhabitants who lived there.
Here we see the reason why the Lord decided to remove the Canaanites from their land: they practiced immorality, especially among members of the immediate family, and here the Lord is specific in naming the relatives that the Israelites were to avoid carnally.
Immoral relationships like incest, God hates. This brings corruption, abuse and degradation to humanity. God wanted His people Israel not to suffer the consequences that these relationships brought to earth.
The lack of self-control and respect for others was what caused the Canaanites to be punished and eliminated.
Unfortunately, the people of Israel also fell into this sin, and began to disobey God's warning, and continued to practice what they saw in Egypt and what they learned in Canaan.
I think that humanity, guided by sin, has not learned the dire consequences of the degradation of morality. They see it as something old-fashioned but at the same time they are shocked when a criminal, full of lust and violence, commits crimes against women and children.
The same society has not accepted that great civilizations perished caused by this degradation. Sodom and Gomorrah, the Greek Empire, the Roman Empire, all these and many more for centuries went downhill until there was no chance to redeem themselves and their empires perished. History has been able to record their bad habits and their excesses, including the degradation of intimate relationships, trampling on the order established by God for the proper relationship between a man and a woman.
Today we continue to see this degradation as the modern era of humanity.
The corrupted humanity has accepted these practices in the name of freedom of expression and the right to privacy, but we must, as a Christian community, teach our children and the next generation that, although society accepts these kinds of lifestyles, it is better to obey God, to do what is right in His eyes, in His order, to have God's blessing in the long run.
So, if we keep ourselves from the practices of the ancestors (Egypt) and those that will come later and become fashionable (Canaan), we will be under the blessing of God and also our families.
