Maz Jobrani was born in Iran, and relocated to Tiburon in the San Francisco Bay area after his family was forced to flee during the revolution. He went on to receive a B.A. degree from UC Berkeley, and chose to further his education by enrolling in UCLA's PH.D. program, when he decided to change course to pursue his calling in "showbiz."
Jobrani has cultivated an immensely successful career as an actor and comedian, and has had the great fortune of traveling the world performing standup- inclusive of the Middle East, where her performed in front of King Jordan. He was a founding member of the "Axis of Evil" Comedy Tour which aired on Comedy Central in 2007, and has had three Showtime standup comedy specials: "Brown and Friendly," "I Come In Peace," and most recently "I'm Not A Terrorist, But I've Played One on TV" (now available on Netflix). In Spring of 2016 he performed at The White House where he had the honor of introducing Michelle Obama.
Despite a career rooted in performance, Maz Jobrani is also a Los Angeles Times best-selling author with his book I'm Not a Terrorist, But I've Played One on TV, which was published by Simon and Schuster. As an actor, Jobrani has graced both screens big and small where has starred in such hits as the indie comedy "Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero" (a film he co-wrote and produced), Disney's "The Descendants," Sydney Pollacks "The Interpreter," and Ice Cube's "Friday After Next," and currently co-stars in the CBS comedy "Superior Donuts."
With more than 50 guest starring roles on the likes of "Grey's Anatomy," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "True Blood," and "Shameless." He is a regular panelist for NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me," and has given two TED Talks.
In April of 2017 he taped a comedy special at The Kennedy Center for Netflix which will debut on August 1st.
ABOUT HIS COMEDY SPECIAL IMMIGRANT ON NETFLIX BEGINNING AUGUST 1ST
Maz Jobrani is heading to Netflix with his comedy special Immigrant, set for debut August 1.
The title refers to Jobrani who fled the Iranian Revolution in the late 1970s at the age of six to move to the U.S. with his family. Filmed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, the hourlong special covers political humor about being an immigrant in the era of Trump, as well as observations about modern day parenting.
In addition to co-starring on CBS' new comedy, Superior Donuts, which begins its second season this fall. He also authored the best-selling book I'm Not A Terrorist; But I've Played One on TV and recently gave the commencement speech at his alma mater, University of California at Berkeley.
Immigrant was produced by Ray Moheet and Norman Aladjem under their Mainstay Entertainment shingle along with Bob Bain Productions. Jobrani is repped by UTA and attorney Bradley Garrett.
