Keel's piece originally appeared in THE JOURNAL OF POPULAR CULTURE (Vol. VIII, 4) back in 1975. Then a rising star of what he and others called the "New Ufology", and author of such seminal books as THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES and OPERATION TROJAN HORSE, Keel cast a critical eye over what he saw as a UFO community plagued by its cultic focus on the extraterrestrial hypothesis/myth. Does Keel's criticism of the Ufological "subculture" still stand today? And what became of the "New Ufology", led by the likes of Keel, Jacques Vallee, Brad Steiger and others?
