EQUALITY vs. EQUITY: Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. Part two of my conversation around housing inequity. This episode my guest is Bree Jones, the founder of PARITY HOMES, which is an equitable development company proudly headquartered in West Baltimore. The focus of Parity Homes is to acquire and rehabilitate abandoned properties by the block, to create affordable home ownership opportunities. Bree shares with me the how and why around the birth of her organization. We discuss the history and roots of housing inequity, gentrification and flat out oppression around owning property for Black Americans in the United States in addition to a focus on the city of Baltimore.
