This week's Offbeat continues our series on asylums. Pennhurst State School and Hospital located in Spring City, PA was known as the Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-minded and Epileptic.
Very quickly, conditions at the institute deteroriated due to overcrowding and funding issues. Pennhurst gained a reputation as one of the worst facilities in the nation. Eventually, a tv documentary series exposed the conditions. Join Mountain Murders as we discuss some of the brutality at Pennhurst.
