08:37
Our guest host, Thomas Westbrook of Holy Koolaid, has done videos on the subject of vaccine efficacy and importance. Allison calls in to talk about her own experience trying to get a vaccine, and her concerns around pre-existing health conditions. Thomas gives some valuable statistics, while Vi points out that the goal is to vaccinate everyone who *can* be, to protect those for whom it might be dangerous or less effective.
19:55
Yousif calls in from Iraq to discuss whether the cosmological argument is an effective one. He doesn’t think so, and neither do the hosts. Vi suggests it presents a false dichotomy and is largely based on semantics, while Thomas goes in for the scientific angle to dismantle the idea that an intelligent First Cause was needed to create the universe.
40:15
Why do theists use philosophical arguments to try and prove god? Thomas suspects it’s because they don’t have any better arguments in areas like science or history. Our caller asks why we even bother engaging with philosophy, if science or history are better options. Vi points out the benefits of engaging with honest interlocutors and calling out dishonest ones.
58:30
Tzelly is a pagan who has a background in both Judaism and Christianity. She suggests that there are multiple gods who exist as manifestations of people groups’ energies. She also claims to be in communication with them via subconscious thoughts and dreams. Vi and Thomas ask clarifying questions to try and verify these claims.
1:18:11
In a desperate last attempt at gaining the upper hand, Robin calls back to demand the hosts explain their “causal justification” absent an ultimate God. Both Thomas and Vi take stabs at understanding what this means, but Vi finally decides that enough is enough. This one gets heated, so get ready with the volume control.
