Your happiness is for the whole world. Your union with God is the priority. God will send you the ones to you that you need to connect with - for you. The ego would say that’s selfish. You will be guided to the exact situations where you are needed to heal your mind and to be of service, but you need to watch the situations you are avoiding or where you are compromising to maintain concepts.
