Upcoming municipal elections in Istanbul has brougt Turkey to another existential watershed. The result will have implications on foreign policy choices and the economy. Prof Madra, with Drew University in New York, argues that the change, while inevitable, will not come easy. The critical factor is the planned purchase of Russian S-400 missiles, and its impact on Turkey's eventual talks with the IMF will be negative, because of the influence of the USA, Madra says.
