In this episode Sarah talks about the rollercoaster of being a consultant and how you can’t afford to take your eyes off of business development, no matter how busy you get.
Now, more than ever, social media and business development is key. It’s essential to be intentional though. What are the niche groups that are most beneficial to your business? It’s also essential not to forget your previous clients, in your search for new ones. Make sure you stay in touch, check in with them regularly, because they may be needing your services again soon too.
You don’t have to spend hours on business development, but you do need to do it regularly. Scheduling ½ an hour a day in your diary is perfect. But if you are busy why not ask for assistance from a VA, PA or marketing assistant? Another of Sarah’s top tips is to block out a couple of hours and schedule your social media posts, using something like Hootsuite or Sprout Social. She shares many more in this podcast.
Sarah is joined by two guests today. The first is Sarah Eynon who is co-director of Figtree HR, along with her husband Rhod. Sarah shares how the partnership works, and how they both work to their strengths, meaning that neither of them has to ‘wear all of the hats’. She shares what she most enjoys about being a consultant and gives some great advice to anyone who is thinking of leaving the corporate world to become a consultant.
Sarah’s second guest is Sandra Blake, Founder of BlakeHR. Sandra launched her business in mid-May. Sandra talks about her move from corporate hr, to contracting and to now taking the leap into consulting. She also talks about her ethos of doing something on business development every day, and how crucial networking has been in getting her business off the ground.
