On tonight’s show, Joe begins the show with a spoof Mets “now hiring” video from about 12 years ago. Joe’s enjoying the Mets disappointing season, and thought that would be...
mostra másTo the big news, four players were suspended for gambling in the NFL, three indefinitely. Joe reviewed the six main points and said there’s no excuse for getting caught violating the rules.
Joe reviews the guidelines about gambling from the different sports leagues and organizations in North America. But some interesting facts that have occurred since sportsbook gambling restrictions were struck down by the Supreme Court in 2018.
Joe begins with colleges, and basically if it’s a sponsored sport, it can’t be wagered on at any level. In MLB, just can’t bet on baseball.
Donn_Wann mentioned that USC should get their wins back, but Joe noted that Les Miles had 39 wins vacated because of violations to the LSU program. It hit Les Miles hard as it made him ineligible for the Hall of Fame since his win percentage is under 60%.
Joe also corrected a point that was mentioned on Tuesday that Las Vegas did not have a 100-degree day for 293 consecutive days, but the heat is coming starting on Friday, breaking 100 degrees and quickly into the 110s this weekend.
Joe finished those tangents and reviews the gambling rules for MLB, NBA and NHL. All basically the same rules that you can’t bet on your own sport. But there are some interesting notes.
James Hardin opted into his contract for next season, but that’s the equivalent of a sign and trade deal. Joe mentions that the Sixers don’t necessarily have to trade him, but Joe thinks Daryl Morey will help Hardin out since they’ve spent 10 seasons together and that he will grant his trade wish.
Travis Kelce had an interesting interview with Vanity Fair. He thinks about how much more money he could have made, but he likes the situation he’s in and loves winning. Joe would rather have someone with that mentality opposed to getting top dollar.
Joe saw that Tennessee State University will be the first HBCU to have an ice hockey program. They’ll start on the club level before going to NCAA D-1, but this is a product of the NHL expanding into these southern markets. Yes, we all might have questioned going to Dallas, Vegas, Florida, and other southern locations, but TSU hockey doesn’t not happen without NHL expansion.
In a weird story, Wesley Ward was suspended for 15 days for a positive test on one of his horses having naproxen in his system, but it was also noted that the horse also had trace amounts of metformin, which is a diabetes drug that I take. Who knew this would be on a horse. Apparently, it helps female horses lose weight, but the horse Insantiy it Seems is a gelding, so maybe there was an accidental contamination like Ward claims?
Joe showed those watching the stream an embarrassing situation at Parx on Wednesday. For some reason, the track dried out after heavy rains on Tuesday, except for one part of the track along the rail by the 1/8 pole. Horses were avoiding the huge puddle. Joe wondered if maybe there was a drainage issue that caused that giant puddle or an issue with their irrigation system. Joe couldn’t find the cause on it, but Joe never saw anything like that ever in the many years of watching horse racing.
I was requested to show the “Grandparents Race” from Emerald Downs by Donn_Wann, and Donn said, no truth to the report that the two that fell were euthanized.
Finally Donn_Wann knocked and showed me a video that I plan on using in the future. Thanks again for creating it, but for those listening on the podcast, there was no sound for some reason.
Note: NO SHOW ON TUESDAY 7/4. The Philly Guy Speaks returns to No Filter on Thursday 7/6 at 9:15 pm, and the usual weekend “audio only” pod will be out late Friday night/early Saturday morning.
