At the age of 17, while walking on my college campus, Mona was struck a few times by a drunk driver. She underwent over 20 limb salvage surgeries before deciding on an elective right below-knee amputation. Mona went on to found the San Antonio Amputee Foundation and in 2017 was honored as one of the CNN Heroes for her work. www.saamputeefoundation.org
