In July 1965, Lester Likens resumed working with the carnival, and his wife was incarcerated for shoplifting. Sylvia’s brothers, Danny and Bennie, were taken in by their grandparents. With limited alternatives, Sylvia and Jenny were entrusted to a family friend named Gertrude Baniszewski.
