The Traditional Institutional Church in the West only tells half the story of the Fall and Redemption, while neglecting Creation and Consummation/Restoration. This is largely the result of the Dualistic and unbiblical 'Sacred-Secular' divide that is totally entrenched in traditional top down hiarachal church. People in transition right now that relates to Stages 4 and 5 in the Stages of Faith that I discussed two podcasts ago will resonate more with the issues being addressed here. Because of the 4 fold alienation as a result of the Fall (Alienation with God, internally with self, with each other individually and nationally and from within nature itself) genuine Mission is to heal and reconcile this profound alienation. Jesus died to reconcile all things in heaven and earth Colossians 1 tells us, so that means true Christian Mission must work toward nothing less than the healing and reconciliation of this 4 fold alienation. The Renaissance and The Reformation were two of the greatest movements in Western history and they both looked back to antiquity in order to move forward. The former looked to ancient Greek culture and the Reformation looked back to the New Testament in order to move forward. In this 'Augustinian Moment' who witnessed the fall of the Roman empire, we are also witnessing the fall of the Western empire. What does this mean for the Ekklesia? This is the topic of this podcast.
