What is Hungary like through the eyes of a New Zealander? What is life like on a research ship near the North Pole? What can the average person do for...
mostra másIn the 13th episode of the third season of the Debreciner Podcast, Dávid Papp and Boldizsár Bereczki, journalists of Debreciner, talk with Chris Long, a writer and world traveler from New Zealand.
Chris Long grew up in a remote part of New Zealand, cut off from the outside world, where the nearest neighbor was almost a hundred kilometers away. Because of this, Chris and his family live an almost completely self-sustaining life, growing their own fruits and vegetables and keeping farm animals. Surrounded by New Zealand's wilderness, forests and ocean from an early age, Chris has learned a lot about survival and respect for Nature. His knowledge came in handy especially when he worked on a research ship that was mapping the Arctic, where he taught the scientists on board how to protect themselves against the extreme cold and how to survive the trying weather of the arctic in case of emergencies.
Chris also chronicles his adventures on his own YouTube channel. Known as WildKiwiAdventurer - https://www.youtube.com/@WildKiwiAdventurer - on the platform, he presents his viewers with the most varied content possible, from whitewater fishing and arctic dog sledding to diving with dolphins. He also wrote a book about his adventurous life, entitled The Boy from Gorge River, two years ago. In this episode, Chris talks, among other things, about the climate crisis that affects him personally, the benefits of a sustainable lifestyle, and what it was like to grow up in the embrace of New Zealand's wildlife, far from the urban environment.
This episode is in English, but Hungarian subtitles are also available on Debreciner's YouTube channel.
