Dr Oscar Serralach speaks about the little recognised phase of life called "Matrescence". This period is the stage of becoming a mother and like adolescence the person undergoing it cannot go back to their former life. Also like adolescence, it needs support, but as it lacks even a widely known name, few women get the support they need to take up the full opportunities this transition brings. Oscar also speaks about the syndrome of Postnatal Depletion that develops as a result of unsupported matrescence.
