Originating in Hawaii, the beautiful dance performed by skilled hula dancers was developed by Polynesian settlers. The dance is known as the Ha’a, thought to have been a tribute to the Goddess Pele, who created the Hawaiian Islands.

You’ll have seen hula dancers perform barefoot, with gently waving hand motions and smoothly swaying body gestures. But this is not just movement in time to the characteristic music, typically played on ukuleles, the guitar, and the double bass. Each movement may signify the swell of the sea, the swaying of trees, and a range of human emotions too. From simple entertainment to profound spiritual and religious messages, hula dancing is more complex than it might first appear. Today, throughout Hawaii, the dance is symbolic of these wonderful islands, but it’s a passion that’s spread worldwide. And not surprisingly, because hula is also an excellent form of exercise! From toning and strengthening abs and leg muscles to easing the strain on hip joints, learning this Polynesian dance can make a huge difference to your life.

Regular hula dancers even find their coordination, balance, and memory are improved through learning and remembering the moves. Why not try today?
