It’s that time again Nightowls, when the veil between our world and what lies beyond is supposedly at its thinnest. But what of those for whom that membrane between life as we know it and whatever may lay outside of it, at anytime, may wane complete- allowing for a pure gaze into the abyss? Neurosurgeon and unlikely war hero Ryan Brenan, protagonist of Dr. Gary Simonds latest novel ‘Death’s Pale Flag’, is a man haunted by just such a view. When he begins to have experiences with the dead, Ryan’s life is upended, and he begins to question if he is loosing his mind, or if the dearly departed, who are seemingly reaching out to him, have chosen him for a reason.
