Easter symbols can largely be traced to the spring equinox and the moon. As a reflector of sunlight in the sky, our lunar disc - which embodies the triple goddess of waxing, full, and waning - also reflects the triplicity of the sun in the form of its physical, spiritual, and intellectual qualities. The moon controls water, emotions, menstruation, and is itself egg-like, therefore making it a grand symbol of femininity. Since it reflects divine light from the sun the moon is home to the creation of an elixir of life, sometimes crafted by a rabbit. The rabbit itself is a symbol of both fertility and abundance, and also chastity. The easter basket is likewise a symbol of abundance, being the cornucopia of spring. The cosmic or goddess egg, which descends form the heavens, is thought to embody both the creation and renewal of life, and the essence of the two former things in their power to bestow such blessings.
