If it was up to the Athletic director Dan Radakovich, the University of Miami would have a softball program in the near future.

Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich says the department is giving consideration to adding a softball program in the near future. Speaking at the Hurricanes’ basketball media day on Monday, Radakovich told reporters that a softball program is “on the table.” The athletic department has been holding discussions about where to put a softball field and trying to line up benefactors for the new program.

Radakovich said softball would be the next women’s sports program the department adds. When he was introduced as Miami’s athletic director in December of 2021, Radakovich stated that adding a softball program was something the department had looked at. The Hurricanes are one of just two ACC athletic departments that don’t currently sponsor a softball team. Stanford and Cal will both bring softball programs when they arrive next year. (SMU doesn’t have one.)Prior to Miami, Radakovich built a softball program from the ground up at Clemson and enjoyed immediate success.

The Tigers went 44-8 and captured the regular-season ACC championship in their first full season in 2021. Then they won 42 games the next year and 49 games last year. Radakovich also added women’s lacrosse and gymnastics to Clemson’s offerings before his departure. With the amount of talent in South Florida, an upstart Miami softball program might be able to enjoy a similarly successful debut.
