Suboxone (Buprenorphine) is a prescription medicine used to treat opioid use disorder. Until recently, very few physicians could legally prescribe the medication because prescribing Suboxone required a special DEA-X waiver. In this episode, we discuss how a recent FDA ruling eliminating the DEA-X waiver program expands who can prescribe Suboxone and what that means in the treatment of opioid addiction.

Dr. Sudheer Potru is an anesthesiologist, pain specialist, and addiction medicine specialist at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Emory University School of Medicine. A large proponent of medical education and advocacy in the addiction space, he sits on multiple national committees in both the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) related to chronic pain and addiction, and he has delivered scholarly presentations at both national and international conferences on these topics.
