It has been said that doing fire drills and other disaster exercises is a time suck, that they interrupt important work and productivity. Time and time again, this has been proven to be wrong. The drills save lives. We can point to Active Shooter drills that saved students a few weeks ago. The example on 9/11, how thousands of lives were saved by Rick Rescorla, who did not take no for an answer. And just this week, a story of a manufacturing plant that had a tornado drill a few weeks ago that saved 150 people when the real thing happened.
