Statistics show that a small business will close its doors just after 3 years because of a main culprit, negative cash flow. Negative cash flow should be the bottom line of any business as it will be the reason your doors remain open. Poor cash management and negative cash flow go hand in hand to a high degree. This could be not charging your clients enough, spending more than what comes in, not keeping track of your expenses and inquiring more debt amongst others. You can calculate if you are in the negative or positive, by adding all of your income and expenses for the year. Being in the negative or positive doesn't just mean the amount of money you have in your account. It can be determining if you made more this year than last year, if you paid off more debt or acquired more, if you have at least a month of income saved or not. A great assignment would be to do this exercise in fining if you are in the negative or positive. You can be in business or years and be in the negative as being negative doesn't always cause you to close your doors, however being in the positive and growing is always the bottom line for a business no matter the size.
