Fire alarms are in, Rep. Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House is out. Join Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway and Senior Editor David Harsanyi as they discuss Rep. Jamaal Bowman's fire alarm fiasco, break down how conservatives kept funding for the proxy war in Ukraine out of their continuing resolution and avoided a government shutdown, and analyze Rep. Matt Gaetz's successful ouster of McCarthy. Mollie and David also debate the definition of "hawkish" and share the hidden pro-life messaging found in modern movies and TV.

Republicans might as well do what's right and represent their voters without any care about how it effects their electability because... Sadly no one gets it that republicans are never going to win again because of mass mail in voting. Dems are doing very pointed market research in swing states registering new voters and then harvesting ballots or sending text message reminders to mail in ballots and they have an entire month. And then they act like changing the rules of the game isn't cheating.

I, for one, an So sick of hearing about how we should settle for a second-rate Speaker. The LEFT is Never embarrassed. The left never waits to “make a compelling case” before they annihilate someone’s life! David Hirsani is absurd. I have been watching this since I voted for the first time in 1986, and we have never had a conservative Congress act on our behalf. Absolutely NOTHING has been done in the border, less than nothing. Our side did not help the political prisoners of January 6th. They repeat the lie that Congressman Jamaal Bowman mistakenly pulled a fire alarm. Do you think the Left would give the benefit of the doubt to any Republican? A Republican would already be out on his ear. Quit it. We aren't listening. It is commentators like this that are destroying our republic. Year after year, decade after decade you tell us to be moderate. No, no more.

Kudos, double kudos, triple kudos to Mollie for honing in on the lurking issue Matt Gaetz issue that I had been thinking about. None of all the half dozen the commentators I have listened to has mentioned this. But before this, Gaetz’ name blared out for having been subjected to the worst possible smear, to all appearances false/unfounded accusations that he was trafficking in sex with underage girls and McCarthy did not help Gaetz. One can prattle on about “rising above it” and “duties as a statesman,” “being a rational person,” but these are human beings. If I were Gaetz, I would never let this go. And I suspect many people would feel the same. This degree of injustice is what creates terrorists, in this case a legislative terrorist. And given the historic nature of what just happened, the first time in US history, that the speaker of the house was deposed, this has real dramatic significance. Gaetz was a first tier victim. His should-be political ally failed him. So he took him down. It is worthy of a Shakespearean tragedy.
