All Gone is an experiment in collaborating with AI to shed light on climate imaginaries. In the project, AI functions as our co-author, who has (machine) learned about climate imaginaries on the basis of training sets of climate fiction literature, indigenous climate change stories, climate-themed visual arts, and Hollywood ‘climate disaster’ film trailers.
All Gone was made by the Visual Methodologies Collective at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. This project is part of the larger program Climate Futures: Machine learning from cli-fi, in which we collaborate with algorithms to create new imaginaries for life with a changing climate. Climate Futures is kindly supported by CoECI Amsterdam.

31 OCT. 2021 · "One minute. Startled, I mean . . . What? A startled pause. Then a series of noisy syllables—choked, actually—choked like a chicken bone. Not like a chicken bone, though—a shorn bone. Not like one, though—Could almost see the first glint of a smile—a slight exaggeration, a tiny smile—cross the square as if she were going on a diet. Her eyes were too dull for that, maybe—eye actually, what a thing!—and she didn't have the teeth for anything stronger than a snort, a snorting, wheezing thumping sound. "

31 OCT. 2021 · "But it’s not romantic now, and I’d be a hypocrite to say so. Water from my own fountain, I still manage to make myself thirsty at the end of a long winter, ten degrees centigrade, but I’d also laced my boots with ice cubes, chew edibles, dislodge Yuk-Cheeks, and pass out Oatmeal Deluxe this morning, and I think I’m on the verge of a full-blown hypoknowledge."

31 OCT. 2021 · "There was a guy next to me in a hammock. He was trying to read his old newspaper but his hands were all shot. He wobbled a little as he looked at the big print window but also stared up at the sky. It’s not like he was expecting a response."

31 OCT. 2021 · "The house was fully engulfed in trees, with at least one hundred metres of back garden, more than fifty on the front garden, and bushes and long tumbledoirs all waving in Wimbledon Street."

31 OCT. 2021 · "I’m so close to the lake and the creek, maybe twenty yards, and I’m thinking about paddling back out there on the trail, my heart beating like a big drum, and I’d be lying if I said it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. It’d be an adventure, everything – the mountains, the creek, the trees, the animals – all gone."

30 OCT. 2021 · "There are fires still burning high in the forest, and I still can't get enough. By then there'll be no need for the dartboards: they'll be a novelty only to us and we'll build a whole new jungle around them, square by square."
